The new Stimulus bill has affected tax credits for energy efficient home improvements.
On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed a stimulus bill (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) that made some significant changes to the energy efficiency tax credits.
The bill includes the ability for homeowners to receive a tax credit of 30 percent of the cost of qualifying energy-efficient products up to a maximum of $1,500 per household for all improvements made in 2009 and 2010. The requirements to qualify for the new energy tax credit include:

Windows purchased must be equal to or below a U-Factor of 0.30 and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30.

The purchase of the qualified windows must be made during the taxable year for which the credit is being claimed.

The credit is only allowed on the price of the qualified windows themselves, not on installation costs, onsite preparation, assembly or sales tax.

The tax credit is allowable only for qualified window units placed in service in 2009 and 2010.

Homeowners must to save their receipts for their windows purchased along with all window labels and stickers for verification and tax recordkeeping.

The windows must be installed in the taxpayer's principal residence

Andersen Corporation Earns Forest Stewardship Council Certification

Today, our company is announcing that our Andersen® and Renewal by Andersen® brands of wood and wood composite windows and doors have received Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain-of-Custody certification. This certification is among the first of its kind in the window and door industry.
The FSC Chain-of-Custody certification is awarded to companies that meet FSC standards for traceability in their wood supply chain. Before a product may carry an FSC label, all stages of the production, distribution and sale of the product must be independently evaluated and the wood must be tracked from the certified forest to the finished product. The certification was awarded by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), the leader in third-party, independent green building product certificatio
Andersen approaches sustainability at every level, and for us it begins in the forests where we source the wood for our products. We are committed to environmental stewardship and our FSC Chain-of-Custody certification supports this philosophy and assures our customers that their purchase supports the highest forestry standards.
In addition to having gained FSC certification, we are the only manufacturer in the industry to have received certification from Green Seal, we were one of the first window manufacturers accepted into the Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR® Program and we earned the 2007 Minnesota Environmental Award winner for our steam generating facility in Bayport.
On October 27, 2008, Jancor Companies, the parent company of Survivor Technologies, announced it has suspended all operations indefinitely with the possibility of closing permanently. The latest information available indicates they continue negotiations with the hope of resuming activity, however, no timetable has been established. Lakeside is currently researching suitable options to replace the Survivor Window line. Expect an announcement sometime in January.
